    Higgs Boson è uno Spettro (Lamutuk), una rara sottospecie di Fata (Lamesu). È colei che controlla e influenza tutte le particelle, nonché famosa scrittrice e storica sotto il nome di Dubsaruruk. Assiste inoltre Neutronium nelle sue attività, nonostante resti in disparte. È stata ribattezzata “Spettro della Primavera” per via del suo aspetto costellato di fiori.

    ー Aspetto ー

    In quanto Spettro, il suo corpo è intangibile. Non può essere toccata se non da altri Spettri, e a sua volta non può toccare nessun oggetto materiale. Non è influenzata dalla gravità quindi può fluttuare come le pare nello spazio.

    ー Corpo
    Higgs Boson ha una corporatura squadrata, pelle marrone, unghie gialle e capelli verdi legati in trecce a caselle di diversa lunghezza. Le trecce di fronte al viso terminano in sfere intervallate da perline dorate. Ha un paio di corna arancione chiaro ai lati della testa e gli occhi rossi con delle leggere linee gialle organizzate a raggi. Ha un tatuaggio di raggi triangolare ripetuto sul petto, sotto la clavicola destra e sull’addome.

    ー Vestiario
    Indossa un top verde e rosa composto da una cornice a balze tutta attorno al busto, una sezione aderente che lascia scoperta la pancia, maniche larghe sugli avambracci che si estendono in guanti senza dita con un cinturino nei polsi, e nastri legati attorno alle braccia. Da una cintura verde si allarga una gonna tonda a tre strati arancioni e rossi, con una parte finale a balze gialle e fiorellini rosa. Nell’ultimo strato è ricamata la parola 𒉆𒆠𒉘 (Namkianga; amore) in filo rosso. Sulla cintura è appuntato un fiore di stoffa arancione. Indossa un paio di scarpe rosa e verdi col tacco a forma di fiore.

    ー Accessori
    Indossa un occhiale con una lente e catenelle varie. Spesso ha una piuma tra le mani; la usa per scrivere e la strappò molti millenni fa dalla coda di Neutronium. Ogni tanto reca in mano un ventaglio dorato con dei fiori rossi, completamente di metallo. Quando si deve mostrare seria, mostra un “cappello/tenda” di catenelle azzurrine lunghe fino ai piedi che la circonda.

    ー Carattere ー

    Higgs è una persona sempre positiva, che mostra molta passione nel suo ruolo di scrittrice, attorno a cui ruota la maggior parte della sua vita. Il ruolo di protettrice delle particelle invece è abbastanza secondario; è raro che qualcosa o qualcuno metta davvero in pericolo la materia. Non si preoccupa nemmeno delle persone a cui ha assegnato delle particelle, le lascia libere di comportarsi come vogliono. A volte può risultare un po’ superficiale come Spettro, ma al contrario del suo compare, preferisce comportarsi come una cittadina dello Ship World e prendere parte attivamente alla vita dei mortali. È amichevole con tutti e una gran chiacchierona, a volte anche troppo; è molto esuberante e se esagera diventa noiosa e appiccicosa. Si comporta in tale modo soprattutto con Neutronium, apposta per infastidirlo dato che lui lo detesta.

    Ha una voce calda, femminile e fanciullesca, spesso parla con un tono alto e pieno, quando è felice diventa squillante. Come tutti gli Spettri, la sua voce è accompagnata da un certo riverbero che la fa sembrare distante. Di solito si esprime in maniera semplice e diretta, ma a volte se ne esce con discorsi che le altre persone non capiscono, o con battute strane che non hanno senso. Ha l’abitudine di cambiare velocemente argomento se si trova in difficoltà. Inoltre, approfitta di qualsiasi occasione per punzecchiare Nyuto.

    È raro che si mostri seria, ma quando succede sembra una persona completamente diversa. Diventa fredda e autoritaria, e utilizza tutti i suoi poteri per combattere. Di solito è tranquilla e restia alla violenza, ma quando serve sa essere aggressiva.

    La sua identità come Higgs Boson è pubblica, ma non quella di Dubsaruruk. Si è resa conto che ai cittadini del mondo piace il mistero, quindi ha deciso di non rivelare chi si cela dietro la Scriba della Città. Da quando lo ha creato, ha incaricato Stjepan di occuparsi di pubblicare le sue raccolte. Higgs è solita annotare appunti, prime stesure e qualsiasi altra cosa utile su un rotulo di carta scritto in verticale lungo pochi metri. Quando arrivava alla fine riordina il necessario, completa le bozze, riscrive in bella copia e infine brucia l'intero pezzo. Li brucia perché altrimenti, a detta sua, li accumulerebbe e non saprebbe cosa farsene. Gli scritti portati a compimento vengono ricopiati in bella grafia in un altro rotulo più lungo e scritto in orizzontale. Periodicamente trasporta i suoi lavori su singoli fogli di carta di alta qualità, abbelliti da illustrazioni e decorazioni, e li fa pubblicare. Da quando ha iniziato a scrivere ha ormai pubblicato decine di raccolte, ma durante l’epoca di maggiori disordini mondiali era molto più attiva. Le piace molto scrivere al confine del mondo, dove c’è solo silenzio e nessuno che la disturba.

    In generale è affascinata dalla natura, sua eterna fonte di ispirazione, che considera massima espressione dell’arte della vita. Si è decorata di fiori per esprimere questo suo amore e si ritiene profondamente onorata di essere chiamata “Spettro della Primavera”. Odia il fatto che non possa sentire il profumo dei fiori, motivo per cui ha passato molto tempo a leggere altri poeti e libri di botanica in cui erano descritti. Le piacerebbe molto poter mangiare quelli commestibili.

    Oltre a natura e storia, scrive spesso prose di festival e aspetti culturali. A volte invece descrive scene di vita quotidiana. Più raramente scrive poesie dedicate a singole persone, oppure ad altri mondi. In passato una larga porzione del suo corpus era dedicata a Ship Devil. Potrebbe aver anche scritto un’ode diffamatoria nei confronti di Neutronium, forse.

    ー Relazioni con altri personaggi ー

    ー Nello Ship World
  • . Neutronium: lo infastidisce ad ogni occasione e non smette mai di riprendere il suo comportamento, ma in fondo le sta simpatico. Nonostante tutto, è rimasta al suo fianco fin da quando misero piede nello Ship World per la prima volta ed è convinta che senza di lei, lui si annoierebbe. Lo considera quasi un fratello, dato che originano dalla stessa fonte. Uno dei suoi modi preferiti per dargli fastidio è scrivere di lui, dato che Nyuto odia la letteratura.
  • . Akui: non si è mai fidata di lei, l’ha sempre trovata una persona detestabile, imprevedibile e inutilmente crudele.
  • . Famiglia di Ship Devil: di per sé non ha nulla contro di loro, ma non ci tiene nemmeno ad avere un rapporto. Interviene sempre a fermarle quando una di loro perde il controllo.
  • . Ship Devil: la adora sotto ogni aspetto, è la sua persona preferita in tutto lo Ship World, la vede quasi come una sorellina minore. Le piace stare con lei e chiacchierare insieme. Soffrirà molto della sua morte in futuro.
  • . Uzume: le sta simpatica e trova molto piacevole parlare con lei, inoltre apprezza che anche lei sia legata ai fiori. A volte però la trova un po’ troppo violenta.
  • . Shiphrah: vanno molto d’accordo e Higgs è sempre stata affezionata a lui, fin dalla sua creazione. È stata lei a scegliere il nome di “Nurma”. Le piace definirsi sua “zietta”. Higgs è una delle poche persone che si riferisce a lui al femminile anche nel presente. Ai tempi di Nurma fece del suo meglio per guidarla lontano dagli insegnamenti di Nyuto, e si prese la briga di insegnarle tutto ciò che ci fosse da sapere sullo Ship World. Le faceva male vederla agire in maniera così violenta e auto-distruttiva, infatti fu al settimo cielo quando Ship Devil la convinse a diventare Dea. Ha anche scritto alcune poesie su di lei, ma senza mai nominarla direttamente. Nel presente si parlano di meno, anche perché Shiphrah non è mai stato un gran chiacchierone, ma rimangono in ogni caso amici.
  • . Keziah: si è affezionata a lei fin da subito, L’ha aiutata spesso a reperire testi antichi, in particolare qualsiasi cosa facesse riferimento a Shiphrah nel passato e Nurma. Le faceva anche leggere poesie e bozze in anteprima, prima che fossero pubblicate.
  • . Rubbia: la sua preferita tra le Particelle e colei con cui ha un legame più stretto.

  • . Devanampiya: un paio di volte si sono parlati, ma a lei fa un po’ impressione il suo aspetto quindi tende ad evitarlo.
  • . Osservatore: non è ostile nei suoi confronti, anzi, più volte gli ha parlato per ottenere informazioni sugli eventi accaduti prima che gli Spettri si svegliassero e ha scritto alcuni racconti e poesie basati sulle sue testimonianze.
  • . Volkas: sono amici stretti, anche se a volte lo sgrida perché si comporta in maniera stupida o si mette a litigare con Nyuto per nessun motivo.
  • . Strangelet: le vuole bene, ma trova il suo amore per Nyuto maledettamente inquietante.

    • ー Armi e poteri ー

    In quanto Spettro della Materia, Higgs Boson è in grado di controllare atomi e particelle. Ha dominio su particelle elementari, protoni, neutroni e fotoni — al contrario di Neutronium, che può controllarli solo se contenuti all’interno di un atomo. Ha potere limitato sugli atomi — il dominio di Neutronium sovrasta il suo. Non ha potere su altri tipi di materia, come l’antimateria (sotto il controllo di Volkas) o la materia strana (sotto il controllo di Strangelet). Non ha potere sul tempo, può vedere il Filato del Destino ma non può analizzarne il contenuto (abilità solo di Strangelet). È in grado di trasformare liberamente la materia per creare qualsiasi cosa voglia, ma sempre rispettando la conservazione della massa.

    Essendo una persona pacifica, non dispone di una grande varietà di armi — il potere di controllare la materia è già abbastanza potente di per sé. Può evocare catene azzurre indistruttibili simili a quelle del suo cappello per legare e fermare così le persone. In alternativa, può evocare un Higgs Field, indicato da una debole luce azzurrina e petali di fiori fluttuanti all’esterno, in cui l’energia viene prosciugata e ogni cosa compresa nello spazio diventa immobile. Il suo ventaglio invece è uno strumento di ipnosi: basta una rapida occhiata ai fiori rossi per rimanere imbambolati.

    ー Storia passata ー

    Qualche istante dopo che Dišakamak (l’Osservatore) e Kasânītu vennero inglobati e corrotti dall’oscurità dell’universo, e dopo la morte di Namtar, il Filato del Destino si condensò in quattro diversi centri e diede origine agli Spettri della Materia. Rimasero a lungo in un sonno profondo, infine si risvegliarono in mezzo al vuoto, vicini allo Ship World. Dopo aver vagabondato un po’ nell’universo, Neutronium e Higgs Boson decisero di rimanere nello Ship World. Volkas rimase per qualche tempo assieme a loro ma presto si annoiò e tornò a girare l’universo, per poi creare un mondo a parte (Didani Tesansha). Strangelet preferì non seguirli e rimanere nel NoWorld come guardiana del Filato.

    All’inizio, dopo aver rifiutato di collaborare con Akui, Neutronium spese la maggior parte del tempo isolato, al confine del mondo. Higgs Boson invece esplorò lo Ship World e cominciò già nei primi tempi a prendere nota di ciò che vedeva, in ordine sparso, senza pensare a eventuali componimenti. Cercava di evitare Akui quanto possibile, ma se incrociava la sua strada faceva finta di tollerarla. Quando Azure divenne il Diavolo dello Ship World, si presentò a lei per stringere un’amicizia duratura, dato che la considerava la più normale della famiglia ed era felice che fosse lei ad aver preso il comando. Quando poi tornò anche Neutronium, lo volle aggiornare su tutti i cambiamenti e le novità e parlò senza sosta per tre giorni di fila (e quella fu l’ultima volta che Nyuto ascoltò ciò che lei aveva da dire).

    Poco dopo cominciò a scrivere tutto ciò che aveva annotato in precedenza in maniera ordinata, come un saggio storico. Nello stesso periodo strappò una piuma dalla coda di Nyuto, e da allora la usa per scrivere. Dato il suo ruolo di storica, nel tempo è stata associata al concetto di correttezza e anche nel presente a volte viene chiamata “Giustizia”.

    Dopo che Nyuto cominciò ad assegnare gli elementi a certi cittadini, gli rubò l’idea e anche lei assegnò delle particelle. Ritrovò una naturale affinità così come era successo con gli elementi, ma all’inizio solo per quark e leptoni; fu più difficile trovare persone affini ai bosoni di gauge. Gli atomi esotici, invece, li ha assegnati assieme a Volkas.

    La sua personalità e le sue abitudini sono le stesse, ma non ha un buon rapporto con Ship Devil e in generale rimane per conto proprio, senza intromettersi troppo. Non è per niente contenta della scoperta del Blood World.

    Higgs Boson is a Spectre (Lamutuk), a rare sub-species of Fairy (Lamesu). She is the one who controls and influences all particles, as well as a renowned writer and historian under the name Dubsaruruk. She also assists Neutronium in his activities, although she remains in the background. She has been nicknamed the “Spectre of Spring” because of her appearance filled with flowers.

    ー Appearance ー

    Since she's a Spectre, her body is intangible. She can't be touched by anybody except other Spectres, and she can't touch any material object. She's not influenced by gravity so she can float in space.

    ー Body
    Higgs Boson has a square build, brown skin, yellow nails and green hair tied in box braids of varying lengths. The braids at the front of her face end in spheres interspersed with golden beads. She has a pair of pale orange horns on the side of her head and red eyes with faint yellow lines arranged in rays. She has a tattoo of triangular rays repeated on her chest, beneath her right collarbone and on her abdomen.

    ー Clothing
    She wears a green and pink top consisting of a ruffled border all the way round the bust, a fitted section that leaves her stomach exposed, wide sleeves on her forearms that extend into fingerless gloves with a strap at the wrists, and ribbons tied around her arms. From a green belt flares a round, three-layered skirt in orange and red, with a ruffled hem featuring yellow ruffles and small pink flowers. The word 𒉆𒆠𒉘 (Namkianga; love) is embroidered in red thread on the bottom layer. An orange fabric flower is pinned to the belt. She wears a pair of pink and green shoes with flower-shaped heels.

    ー Accessories
    She wears a spectacle with a single lens and various chains. She often holds a feather in her hands; she uses it to write and plucked it from Neutronium’s tail many millennia ago. Every now and then she carries a golden fan with red flowers, made entirely of metal. When she needs to look serious, she wears a “hat/curtain” of light blue chains reaching down to her feet, which surrounds her.

    ー Character ー

    Higgs is always positive and shows great passion for her role as a writer, around which most of her life revolves. Her role as protector of the particles, on the other hand, is fairly secondary; it is rare for anything or anyone to actually endanger matter. She doesn’t even worry about the people she has assigned particles to; she leaves them free to behave as they please. At times she can come across as a bit superficial as a Spectre, but unlike her counterpart, she prefers to behave like an ordinary citizen of Ship World and take an active part in the lives of mortals. She is friendly with everyone and a real chatterer, sometimes even too much; she is very exuberant and, if she overdoes it, she becomes tedious and clingy. She behaves this way especially towards Neutronium, deliberately to annoy him, as he detests it.

    She has a warm, feminine and childlike voice; she often speaks in a high, full tone, which becomes shrill when she is happy. Like all Spectres, her voice is accompanied by a certain reverberation that makes it sound distant. She usually expresses herself in a simple and direct manner, but sometimes she comes out with remarks that other people don’t understand, or with strange jokes that make no sense. She has a habit of quickly changing the subject if she finds herself in a tight spot. Furthermore, she takes every opportunity to tease Nyuto.

    She rarely appears serious, but when she does, she seems like a completely different person. She becomes cold and authoritative, and uses all her powers to fight. She is usually calm and averse to violence, but when necessary, she can be aggressive.

    Her identity as Higgs Boson is public knowledge, but not that of Dubsaruruk. She has realised that people like mystery, so she has decided not to reveal who lies behind the Scribe of the City. Ever since she created them, she has entrusted Stjepan with the task of publishing her collections. Higgs has the habit of writing down notes, first drafts and anything else useful on a rotulus, several metres long. When she reaches the end, she organises what is needed, finalises the drafts, rewrites them in fair copy and finally burns the entire piece. She burns them because, otherwise, she would accumulate them and wouldn’t know what to do with them. The completed writings are copied out in neat handwriting onto another, longer scroll written horizontally. From time to time, she transfers her work onto individual sheets of high-quality paper, embellished with illustrations and decorations, and has them published. Since she began writing, she has published dozens of collections, but she was far more prolific during the period of greatest global upheaval. She greatly enjoys writing at the edge of the world, where there is only silence and no one to disturb her.

    In general, she is fascinated by nature, her eternal source of inspiration, which she considers the highest expression of the art of life. She has adorned herself with flowers to express this love of hers and considers it a great honour to be called the “Spectre of Spring”. She hates the fact that she cannot smell flowers, which is why she has spent a great amount of time reading other poets and books on botany in which they are described. She would like to be able to eat the edible ones.

    Other than nature and history, she often writes prose pieces about festivals and cultural aspects. At other times, she describes scenes from everyday life. More rarely, she writes poems dedicated to individual people, or to other worlds. In the past, a large portion of her corpus was dedicated to Ship Devil. She may also have written a defamatory ode about Neutronium, perhaps.

    ー Relationships with other characters ー

    ー In the Ship World
  • . Neutronium: she teases him at every opportunity and never stops criticising his behaviour, but deep down she rather likes him. Despite everything, she has stayed by his side ever since they first set foot in Ship World, and she is convinced that without her, he would get bored. She regards him almost as a brother, given that they were born from the same source. One of her favourite ways of annoying him is to write about him, as Nyuto hates literature.
  • . Akui: she has never trusted her; she has always found her to be a detestable, unpredictable and needlessly cruel person.
  • . Ship Devil's relatives: she has nothing against them, but she isn’t keen on having a relationship with them either. She always steps in to stop them when one of them loses control.
  • . Ship Devil: she adores her in every way; she is her favourite person in the whole World, and she sees her almost as a younger sister. She enjoys spending time with her and chatting together. She will suffer greatly from her death in the future.
  • . Uzume: she likes her and finds talking to her very pleasant; she also appreciates that she, too, has a connection to flowers. Sometimes, however, she finds her a bit too violent.
  • . Shiphrah: They get on very well, and Higgs has always been fond of them, ever since they was created. It was her who chose the name “Nurma”. She likes to call herself their “auntie”. Higgs is one of the few people who refers to them using feminine pronouns, even in the present. Back in Nurma’s day, she did her best to steer her away from Nyuto’s teachings, and took it upon herself to teach her everything about the Ship World. It pained her to see Nurma act in such a violent and self-destructive manner; in fact, she was over the moon when Ship Devil persuaded her to become a Goddess. She has also written a few poems about her, though without ever naming her directly. These days they speak less often, partly because Shiphrah has never been much of a talker, but they remain friends nonetheless.
  • . Keziah: she took a liking to her right from the start. She often helped her track down ancient texts, particularly anything referring to Shiphrah in the past and Nurma. She also let her read poems and drafts in advance, before they were published.
  • . Rubbia: her favourite among the Particles and the one with whom she has the closest bond.

    • ー Other Worlds
  • . Devanampiya: They’ve spoken a couple of times, but she finds his appearance a bit off-putting, so she tends to avoid him.
  • . Osservatore: She isn’t hostile towards him; on the contrary, she has spoken to him on several occasions to gather information about the events that took place before the Spectres awoke, and has written a number of short stories and poems based on his accounts.
  • . Volkas: They are close friends, although sometimes she tells him off for behaving in a dumb way or getting into arguments with Nyuto for no reason.
  • . Strangelet: She cares for her, but finds her love for Nyuto bloody disturbing.

    • ー Weapons and powers ー

    As a Spectre of Matter, Higgs Boson is capable of controlling atoms and particles. It has dominion over elementary particles, protons, neutrons and photons — unlike Neutronium, which can only control them if they are contained within an atom. She has limited power over atoms — Neutronium’s dominion supersedes her own. She has no power over other types of matter, such as antimatter (under Volkas’s control) or strange matter (under Strangelet’s control). She has no power over time; she can see the Thread of Fate but cannot analyse its contents (an ability unique to Strangelet). She is able to freely transform matter to create anything she wishes, but always respecting the conservation of mass.

    Being a peaceful person, she does not possess a wide variety of weapons — the power to control matter is powerful enough in itself. She can conjure indestructible blue chains, similar to those on her hat, to bind and restrain people. Alternatively, she can conjure a Higgs Field, indicated by a faint blue glow and floating flower petals on the outside; within the space energy is drained and everything becomes motionless. Her fan, on the other hand, is a tool of hypnosis: a quick glance at the red flowers is enough to leave one dazed.

    ー Past ー

    A short while after Dišakamak (the Observer) and Kasânītu were engulfed and corrupted by the darkness of the universe, and after Namtar’s death, the Thread of Fate condensed into four distinct centres and formed the Spectres of Matter. They remained in a deep slumber for a long time, before awakening in the void, close to the Ship World. After wandering the universe for a while, Neutronium and Higgs Boson decided to remain in the Ship World. Volkas stayed with them for a while but soon grew bored of it and returned to roaming the universe, eventually creating a world of his own (Didani Tesansha). Strangelet chose not to follow them and remained in the NoWorld as guardian of the Thread.

    At first, after refusing to cooperate with Akui, Neutronium spent most of his time in isolation, at the edge of the world. Higgs Boson, on the other hand, explored the Ship World and began, right from the start, to annotate what she saw, in no particular order, without thinking about putting the notes into any sort of composition. She tried to avoid Akui as much as possible, but if she crossed paths with her, she pretended to be nicer. When Azure became the Devil of the Ship World, she approached her to forge a lasting friendship, as she considered her the most normal member of the family and was glad that it was she who had taken leadership. When Neutronium returned, she wanted to update him on all the changes and developments and spoke non-stop for three days (and that was the last time Nyuto listened to what she had to say).

    Shortly afterwards, she began to write down everything she had previously noted in an orderly fashion, like a historical essay. Around the same time, she plucked a feather from Nyuto’s tail, and has used it to write ever since. Given her role as a historian, over time she has come to be associated with the concept of fairness, and even in the present she is sometimes called “Justice”.

    After Nyuto began assigning the elements to certain citizens, she stole his idea and began assigning particles as well. She found a natural affinity, just as it previously had happened with the elements, but initially only for quarks and leptons; it proved more difficult to find people with an affinity for gauge bosons. Exotic atoms, instead, were assigned together with Volkas.
